In my article on Smart Goals, xaviorgeis/p/hows-your-smart-goals?, the application was mainly for business-oriented frameworks and individuals within those frameworks, however, the principles remain the same for anybody working to achieve good results at whatever it is they set their minds on.
And the same can be said here.
In the article on Smart Goals I take a deep dive into how better structuring can influence outcomes. That’s what I would like to apply here as well.
In the context of which this article speaks, then the concept and activation of smart goal application will be placed not only in the court of the sufferer challenged with good mental health management, but it will have much to do with those who act as support persons for this management.
This will take place in the way support persons interreact and effectively communicate with somebody they are helping to care for.
By integrating the principles behind making improved goals that work on structure first, then carers and medical staff can communicate this method in bite size portions flexed to fit the individual needs of patients.
Let’s Break it Down:
Take a look at this section with your support person.
Specific:
What is my health goal for improvement?
Who are my main supports?
Who will I call if I need immediate help?
Why is my health goal important?
Measurable:
I will use a journal to track my progress.
How will I know when I have achieved my goal?
What might that look like?
Achievable:
Do I have the right supports in place?
What could I do to find what I need in better supports?
Am I able to think about how realistic my health goal is based on where I’m at emotionally and physically at present?
Relevant:
Will my goal help me toward health management success in the future?
If not what needs to be changed now?
How will my goal do that?
Can I work toward my goal immediately or do I need more extensive help first to learn acceptance of my limitations?
Time:
What is my biggest concern on my path to recovery?
What can I start to implement today to ensure I manage this concern effectively?
The impact mental illness has - and here we have primarily mentioned Major Depressive Disorder, but there are many various categories also applicable - on the sufferer’s life cannot be underestimated or simply shoved aside.
Unwell persons cannot just, ‘‘snap out of it,’’ or supposedly ‘'stop playing the victim,’’ it is far more complicated then that. It is a serious situation that requires the proper assigned help and care.
As somebody who has lost two people in my own life to suicide, this article has been prepared to hopefully help others a little and comes from the years of being a part of the care of these loved ones.
Has it and did it take a toll on me?
Yes.
Did I need a whole lot of recovery time for myself?
Absolutely.
And that’s why it is vital for carers and other support persons to get the right support for themselves as well as you do your best to be there for somebody looking to recover and get through it all.

Another little something is donating me a coffee. Thanks so much in advance.😊😊
